Assignment 1 - My Name is..... I love Musical Instruments!!

My Name is ......

I Love Musical Instruments!!

After taking into considerations the feedbacks, I changed the love from Music to Musical Instruments which is more apt.

Also, I replaced the keyboard for the 'n' to a recorder.

Looking forward to read feedbacks!!

Assignment 1 - My name is..... I hate Smoking...

My Name is......

I hate Smoking!!

Edited the smoke to create a better effect. Is this better? Feedback anyone?

Assignment 2 - Pictogram

Pictogram for a Vending Machine.

Based on feedback that the previous work was too abstract, I have relooked at my assignment 2 and came up with this instead.

Is it better? Hoping to get more feedback!!

Assignment 2 - Pictogram

Final product.

Assignment 2 - Pictogram

This shows the 'evolution' of the picture as it gets reduced.

Assignment 2 - Pictogram

To facilitate the design, I bought a bottle of coca cola and had it traced on photoshop so that I have this figure to represent the bottles.
Here are my 5 designs, starting from the most detailed, to the most abstract:
1.
2.

3.

4.

5.

Assignment 2 - Pictogram

Yup, the object which I have chosen to 'reduce' is the drinks vending machine. I feel that the vending machine is something which anyone, including students have to frequent at times. However, there is little or no signs to tell where to find a drinks vending machine. Hence I have decided to attempt to come up with a pictogram for it.
P.S. Ignore the rubbish bin beside the vending machine!

Assignment 1 Sketches

Sketch 1:
My name is AlanI Love Music
The second 'A' was supposed to be the small 'a' at first. But as I started doing the sketches on illustrator, I found out that it was a chore trying to fit the 'piano strip' into an 'a'. Futhermore, it would not look as distinct if I had used the small 'a'. Hence I settled for the capital 'A'.
I had a hard time trying to draw the shape of the guitar (the 'l'). I ended up drawing it by using the 'bloating tool' on a 'rounded rectangle'. It resulted in a very inconsistent shape. Anyone has any better ideas?
Sketch 2:
The original A

The original 'A' was drawn like this. But Michael commented it looked too jaggy for a 'smokey' effect that I was trying to present. Hence I went to improve on it, by making sure the outline is not too jaggy.

Hence, the end product:

My Name is Alan

I Hate Smoke

The 'skull and bone' in this picture is supposed to illustrate that smoking causes death, which also implies my hate for smoking.

The 'smokey' effect for my name in this picture is not exactly 'smokey' enough. I had drawn them using straight line segments first, and then touching up the lines using the 'bloating tool' yet again. (I really like the 'bloating tool' somehow, find it very useful.).

Anyone has any idea how to go about doing the 'smokey' effect? Do let me know.
